Marriage: Enjoy or Endure?

It is a  noticeable trend that most singles are gradually slipping out of that idea of having a perfect relationship or a long lasting relationship or marriage or simply having a happy marriage.
They already have a preconception that all guys or ladies cheat and have already given their boyfriends, girlfriends or spouses that blank cheque of cheating and not to disappoint them, he or she makes full withdrawal.
Our values are changing, and our expectations from what God designed to be a bliss are being degraded.
Young people are opting for celibacy. They'll rather stay single that end up in that kinda marriage they find in the society. Happy today, punching bags the next. Couples are often changing to clients seeking divorce. This isn't God's blueprint.

I know people who are married and I 'believe' they are happy. They are the ones who don't tell you all men/women are cheats. They tell you marriages work. I'm not leaving out the fact that some people hide all their issues so well. There is just how far you can go hiding some things. If there is no love it will surely manifest.

All these ideas we already have are a result of our personal experiences. The marriages we have seen around us. It could even be our parents or what they have told us and made us believe about the concept of marriage.

What's your motive for getting married?
The question of purpose/motive is one question we fail to answer with respect to the things we do in life even asides marriage. When the purpose or use of a thing is not known, abuse is inevitable.
People go into marriages for the very wrong reasons or without having a good idea of why they are there.
I've heard people say they are old enough. If only age was enough to make you have a happy home. Although in our society, the pressure mounts (esp on ladies) as they approach their 30s.

Two people can't work together except they agree. But its sad that people go into marriages without an agreement on how they'll handle things. How they'll resolve issues. The leave the decision to 'when we get to the bridge, we'll cross it'

Sadly they both have personal bridge-crossing ideas and they are not willing to change. Knowing fully well that both parties were trained differently as they grew up.

Domestic violence, divorce, cheating are not part of God's plan for the marriage institution.
These days, couples easily go down that divorce road. Infact they have had it at the back of their mind before they even got into the marriage. 

It might not be a bed of roses. Even if it is remember beyond the floral parts of the rose, there exists thorns which can prick if not well handled.

God wants you to enjoy your marriage!

Lost Generation - Poem

I read this poem sometime ago and I thought to share...
This poem has a read-and- reverse  style and was written by Jonathan Reed. It is a  pessimistic monologue of how this generation looks. When read in the reverse, it paints a brighter future



I'm a part of Lost Generation
and I refuse to believe that
I can change the world
I realize this may be a shock but

Half Time...






The referee blew the whistle which signalled the end of the first half of the game. That brought the chase after the ball to a halt. All the players looking tired, walked sluggishly as they approached the dressing room entrance. It had been an engaging 45mins.
For the two teams, the tales were different. They had both sides of the coin each to themselves. This was a crucial game and as with other games, no one would be happy to lose. In fact they didn't fail to prepare so the issue of preparing to fail wouldn't come in here. The next 45 mins would determine who wins the trophy in this crucial final of the prestigious league
For the winning team, their coach's job is to ensure they sustain the victory and score more goals while keeping the lead and from his words he told his team " boys we can do more than this, we can keep our lead and ultimately win the league. We are 45 mins away from the title".
During this 15 minutes break, the coach reviews the last 45 minutes of the game with his players and they discuss the game plan for the second half, the strategy, the changes to be made which will ultimately ensure they win the game.
It is usually a closed door session, to keep journalists, fans and other people away. This usually avoids distraction and keeps the game plan of each team in the right hands.
For the other team, their game needs to change, they can’t continue to play the same way and expect different results. They need to do much more than they did in the first half; they can’t accept a defeat just yet. Their coach told them “It is not over until we win, if we accept our defeat now then we have failed, we have all it takes to win this game, we have come this far and we won’t give up. The next 45 mins will make a difference if we take the challenge. We are 45 mins away from the title”
Both teams took into cognisance that their rival is not resting on its hoarse
The 15 mins talk is over and its left for either of the teams to take the game. Its either they win or they lose.
This is the half of the year 2011. The last 6 months has been a crucial part of our lives, but more importantly, is what we do with the days ahead.
Goals that have been set can still be achieved, in career, family, relationships, business, etc. Like this game of football there is an opportunity to change the game and accomplish everything you have set for the year.

  • Review the past 6 months
  • Check the goals you have set
  • What does God want you to do?
  • Set new goals
  • Act!!!
In life, starting well is important but much more important than that is finishing well and strong

A Life that counts...



I'm thankful for everything he has done in my life and the lives of people he has blessed me with. He has kept me, provided, sustained, protected, shielded, delivered, guided, nurtured me through the years. I thank God for my parents, my siblings, family and friends.
On my birthday last year I wrote a piece on a life that counts. Reflecting again on this
Life is not really lived unless it counts. It does not matter how long we have lived, but a true measure of living is how it counts; The values we have created, the things we have been able to do, the lives we have touched.
Birthdays are not only to number our days but to reflect on the days and apply our heart to wisdom.
This will give you a good picture of where you are coming from,where you are and where you are going.. but most importantly knowing who God wants you to be and becoming it.

3rd Time...My Testimony



Hello readers,
My last post was 35 days ago. I had no intention of staying off blog ville but I've been busy with work. I just pop-in once in a while to read other other blogs coupled with the fact that I also had a writer's block hence, I have a couple of unfinished posts.
I blogged about a similar experience a few months back. This is the 3rd episode of such...

This is my testimony.....
My day started early like every other day and I had a report from work I had to finish as it was due later in the day.
5 am: I started this report and needed to finish complete a particular a drawing. It was taking so much of my time so I decided to finish it when I get to work. up at work.
6:35 : I was getting late. Though I was through with all the necessary stuff and before I set out I called a colleague to know where the staff bus was at that time to avoid waiting at the busstop unnecessarily.
The call gave me a relief. I still had 15 minutes to get to my bus stop.
At about 6:45 I set out only to waited at the gate of the house. I was barely through receiving a call when I noticed a motor bike on the adjacent street. Within 20 seconds I saw the same motor bike a few meters away from me.
Two men were on the bike. The rider and the other guy left nothing for suspicion. He was well dressed, wearing a red guinea kaftan and also wore a cap. He was just drawing the gun when I noticed it and all I did was to take a flight back through the gates into the house. Surprised by my reaction, they took off. I'm sure they never anticipated my action. I waited for a few minutes to be sure they were gone. Going out again was not easy but I had to go to work. so I summoned courage.

I could have been hurt, my laptop (no data backup), phones, important documents, ATM cards, IDs, cash would have been lost.
I thank God as I asked myself a few questions:

What if he ran after me?
What if he shot the gun?
what if i did not see then coming?
what if the gate was locked?
What if what if?
The only answer I got was my need to give thanks to God for my sparing life and property.
I took me a few hours to get back to myself.
I was in shock all day and cant remember how I was able to do some work in the office.
The next morning, on my way to work, I was very cautious but I told myself I did not save myself the previous day so He who has kept me will not forsake me.

I pray it does not happen again. but I hold on to the fact that God is faithful.

Its good to be back :)

When Money Fails...



In my walk in life I found out that money is limited.
Yet we can do all we can all in a bid to get the money that cant even afford the things that are most important to us.
People do all sort to make this money.
They kill, they steal, they manipulate, they trade their values. Its very pathetic.
Sadly enough when they get this money, the only things they can afford are just physical things, cars, houses, properties, just name it.
Sure they can pay for all those.

My question is this. How much can you pay for your life, health, love, safety, good relationships, joy, happiness, wisdom, peace etc?
You can pay for health care but it can't guarantee your health
you can pay for education but it can't buy you wisdom or knowledge.
You can pay for security services but it won't guarantee you safety.
I have seen rich men who would give all they had just to have a sound health.

If only we had the right values


Money can fail.
Remember the recession, so many rich people became poor in no time.
Money failed


Now don't get me wrong. I'm not saying money is bad
You need money to do alot of things in life, you have to pay your bills, feed, buy some good things in life,
But loving money and holding it so dearly as if it can solve all our problems and satisfy all our needs.

The Will to CHANGE....





Your Story taught me a lesson
Never to give in
On hope, my dreams, faith, or life in general
Your will to change inspires me

Tired of living the mediocre life.


Late last year I met this young guy who had a story in which I saw the will of a person to change.
He was born and he also grew up in the UK. He grew up thinking nobody liked him coupled with the fact that his parents were separated so he knew little of a fatherly and motherly care. All they provided him was the money he needed to do the things he wanted The only love he seemed to find is amongst his friend who engaged in a lot of unwholesome activities. He had joined a gang. Gangs are not just meant for fun. He was exposed to gang fights, violence, drugs and other social vices. The marks on his body can tell a lot of stories

At a particular point in his life, he got to a point where he did not find satisfaction in the things he did, he wanted a change but knew nowhere to find it. He wanted to commit suicide but I believe it was God that made this impossible. The change actually started when one of his gang mate was killed and some went to jail for other offences. I really don't know how he escaped that. 
He then realised that his association with this gang would not change anything in him. He craved for a change but he did not know how. His environment was not helping either. All the influences were putting pressure on him to return to his ways. 
During summer in the particular yeah he came to Nigeria with his mum and since then has been around. It was an escape from the influence and his old ways.
Now starting a new life is not easy. Habit are not just things that we can easily drop. But with the help of God this guy got back to school in Nigeria. now he should be studying law in one of the universities.

He is doing very well now. He has his priorities right. He has the oppurtunity to live a life of affluence now but he has chosen not to. He now knows his boundaries and things that can influence him.
Things can change, change is inevitable
But note that change can be for better or worse.
The willingness to change, to life a better life is what moves me in this story. You need to hear him speak. He has been through a lot.
His story taught me a lot. For a person to say "I want to change", This  is a major step but dont stop at saying you must believe in the change. Can you remember the "Change We Believe in"  campaign of President Obama in the last American presidential election campaign? That was a great change in the history of American politics
I have not been involved in social vices. I don't have any habits I'm dealing with. So does that make having some things change about me easier? I don t think so.
The will to change is key. But the natural man resists change. He is used to having things work the way they are. He is used to the status quo.  Tell him its going to change you might just create more problems for him.
There are changes we can control and there are changes that we cannot influence the outcome.
We live in an ever changing world.
Only those with the will to change and are prepared for the change will weather the storm a change might bring.

Confronting FEAR..

Ten Things I Love

1.God - this is His place.He is always First. God is Love! He is the essence of Life. The Father of all creation

2. Family- I love my family: my parents, my siblings and relations. They have always been there. I value family

3. People/Friends- I love being around my friends, meeting new ones and keeping them.

4. Writing - I know I have a gift to write so i'm trying to harness it. i love it. "If it is not written it does not exist"

5. My Laptop -Wow. this one ehhhn.. I can count the days I have been without my laptop. I'm addicted to it. Its getting old though. I need to replace it (God loves a cheerful giver). btw its saying hi. lol

6. Internet- It one of the greatest inventions, I can hardly do without it. on the mobile or PC.


7. Music & singing. I can sing. Really I can. and I love listening to music too. I'm very choosy though,

8. Photography & Pictures I love taking pictures. I only need to have a reason to capture an event and thats all. I love collecting pictures too. Can't wait to get my own camera (God loves another cheerful giver. lol).

9. Helping people/Volunteering I can over do this one. My heart just goes out to the helpless. Wish I can do more.

Tweeting for a Cause!


Tweeting for Charity
I got the opportunity I had always wanted and this was to volunteer for such an event like tweet for charity
It started when I had to help out the Lagos team with some legwork. knowing that the Orphanage was a 5mins walk from where I live.
This is an orphanage I had earlier been opportune to visit and make donations.

My heart always goes out to giving, charity and helping people in general .
I once wrote a poem about some orphans I had once met and that is the best i have written so far (I think). It still pains me that it was misplaced .I had teary eyes when I was writing it I hope I find the poem someday cos its hard rewriting it.


So the event went well with majorly tweeters coming together to make a difference in the lives of these kids ages between 0 and 7.
I used to think all kids in orphanages could be adopted but this thought was dispelled we were told that some are for adoption while some are for fostering. The kids were lovely, the smiles on their faces, their response, they actually felt loved, triplets, the very cute baby...
I always tell myself and the people I come in contact with that we are not better off. Its just a privilege that we enjoy

These kids never knew what it felt like to be in the hand of a mother, to enjoy the cuddle of a father, suck from the breast of a mother....
In all it was a wonderful experience to give to those who are in need.

Also had the opportunity to see some of my followers on twitter for the first time and I came to the conclusion that people don't really look like their tweets (pun intended) but really they don't. your tweets don't define you. You define your tweets.

I'm April Wise!

Every 1st of April is  marked as April Fools Day . A day that is recognised for the playing of pranks on people, friends, family,etc commissioning hoaxes or sending people on a fool's errand like wikipedia puts it
The day started off with a follower on  twitter waking me up from my sleep to play a prank on me. It was a good one.
 Secondly, I fell for  Vera's prank saying she was moving to Nigeria.  Until I got to the end of the story. I should have known Vera better and I promise not to take her seriously again. (at least on April 1st).

Thirdly, it was a news I read about the Pope resigning. I had to go check CNN and BBC when I did not find it there then it dawned on me that I had been pranked.

After these 3 pranks I fell for no other. I guess I got April wise or I had mastered their prank pattern. Some other people tried but I was expecting it so I never fell for it. he he
At a point i thought of pulling a fast one on someone but I think I was nice enough to call it off
This April is going to be a great month for me, better than March. For me March was a very fast month probably because I had a lot of things I had to do in a limited time.
This April I need wisdom to do all I will be laying my hands on this month cos wisdom is very key.

Wisdom is the main thing; get wisdom, and with all your getting, get understanding. - Prov 4:7


Wisdom is the correct application of knowledge, but you need to understand, that is know the purpose of the things  you do.
I pray God guides our path this month.

YES or NO!






There are times in our lives when decisions are made by us or for us. Decisions we may be limited to either a yes or a no.

A few days ago I accompanied someone to the Lagos US embassy on Walter Carrington Crescent, VI, The road is well known cos its majorly occupied by embassies of US, UK, Germany, Italy, India, Finland, Bulgaria.
The US embassy is a place where as a visa applicant, the response you get is an approval or a denial in the form of a yes or a no.


It was an experience. I got there as early as past 7am cos the appointment was scheduled for 7.30am.
At this time the place was already full . I was only allowed to wait under a tree while I also enjoyed the view of the Lagos lagoon watching speed boats passing bye and also caught a view of Femi Otedola's £12 million yacht.


I waited for 4hrs before she was called in and she spent another 3hrs plus in the embassy all for a yes or no.
While I was waiting, as people came out of the embassy, you could easily say from the look on their faces and the way they walked the response they got. They could laugh, smile or just have a blank face. But for some people you just can't tell They hid their emotions and expressions.

Decisions can make or break us.
It is more natural to say yes. Its least confrontational its just agrees to wishes of other or going along with them and cos its not easy to say no so we comply.
Saying yes can also mean accountability on the respondents part it means you give your support and you are saying its ok.

With or Without!



Some have food but cannot eat
Some can eat but have no food
We have food and we can eat

Amen

This is a song we sang back in primary school at lunch time. Just a form of prayer said before having our lunch.
As a kid I understood the song. knowing that there are people who had food and those who did not have even in my class.
This is a reality of life. Some have food but cannot eat. Its not that they don't to but they just can't.
This could be by virtue of their disposition, mood, health condition, worries,
The fact is that the food is there but it can't be eaten. how painful. I have seen people who are on hospital beds and would love to eat but its just not possible they are being fed with fluids and pipes.
On the other hand, those who have the ability to eat, appetite and are hungry for food just don't have any food to eat. Thats an Irony of life.
And there are people who have food to eat and can eat it.
They do so without taking thought of the fact that there people living with the above conditions.
Above all whether there is food or not. Thank God for the gift of life, 'cos only the living can eat.

A Life That Counts.




It has been some 12 days since my last post though its not that I have been away from Blogville but I have just not been able to get my fingers to type this post. lol.

I have not being able to post something on this blog since my birthday though I have being reflecting on one scripture of the bible that people usually make reference to for birthdays it says:

So teach us to number our days that we may apply our hearts to wisdom.

People only number their days on their birthdays forgetting the fact that
everyday our life actually counts.
Numbering your days would make you apply
your heart to wisdom.
Numbering does not mean counting or the arithmetic sum
of the days you have lived since birth it only a way of accounting for the life
that you live.
Now the question is how do I apply my heart to wisdom?

Applying wisdom gives you the understanding that as humans no matter how long we live, life is short so any opportunity we have to make our life count should be maximised.

I would rather have it said 'he lived usefully' than 'he died rich.' - Benjamin Franklin

Instead of seeing the world in terms of how much money he could make, Franklin saw the world in terms of how many people he could help. To Benjamin Franklin, being useful was his own reward.

Living a life that counts entails giving, loving, helping, serving, encouraging, adding value to others and impact the lives of other people positively.

My life would not just count in term of wealth or degrees.

So, is your life counting? Make you it count!

A life of Purpose, A purpose for Life



In the last Two weeks, i have been involved in one incidence or the other which I escaped narrowly by the hand of God.
These has got me thinking that for a life that is preserved, it means there is purpose for such. This increased the desire to know more of purpose for which God has created me.

This is my story...
The first was close to a major road on my way to work, this funny looking guy whom I cant really remember how he looks likes walked up to me and pulled out something from the bag he was carrying and pointed it at me. lo and behold it was a gun. I took a quick glance at it and that was the last the thing I could remember.
All that was running through my mind while I was running was: have I been shot? , I'm I sure I'm still here, was i bleeding? Guess what i took to my heels. This a response to stimulus. I wouldn't have done this if I took a thorough thought of it. I ran to catch a bus. Then I wondered why the guy did not give me a chase. I'm sure he did not expect my reaction. He was too surprised to follow me.
The bus officer told me the bus was not going through my route. I insisted on following the bus telling him a guy was after my life or bag (or both).
What was even in this bag? My very own laptop, some books and very important documents. So this guy would have taken all away. Never!
Scene 2 was just a close shave to motor bike accident. For a second I was wondering why people around were shouting. What happened? the next second made things clearly. A bike with two guys on it was on top speed and was braking when he saw I would not stop. cause I was actually crossing the road. What was I thinking of? life, babe, food?
All I can remember was that I jumped raising my right leg (like in those action movies) and the motorbike handle just bruised my abdomen. All in 3 secs. I left the scene immediately patting down my own body. Hoping that I was not hurt.
I left the scene also thanking God. It was so dramatic. I would have been on Plaster now suffering from a crushed leg. God forbid!
As if that was not enough the third scene got me scared. Was in a bus and I guess the driver was either high on alcohol (or something else) or the brakes just failed.
He decided he would not stop until he made a good inelastic collision (little from my physics class) with a pathfinder jeep. My grip was not firm enough. so i saw myself almost on the floor (in the bus) with a bruised wrist. We got off the bus immediately. Thank God again.
Now I was getting scared but I had to assure myself. If God saved me from these then. He will do more.
When the purpose of a thing is not known, surely abuse is inevitable.
I cant expose myself to abuse , I'm on purpose
I have a purpose I know,
I must know it all,
I must live it to the fullest,
I must fulfill it.
I'm not here to play,
I'm not here for games
I'm here for impact and to impart not to impress.
A life without purpose can be anything and even achieve anything (The last time I checked anything meant nothing)
Know your purpose run for it, stay on it, achieve it, never turn away from it.

Time my Time


However we try, we cant hold it back, we cant stop it.
The hands of the clock just keeps moving sweeping through every revolution
You can't stop it or freeze it
You can't manage it, you can only manage the activities within it.
Its never enough.
It goes on with seconds rolling into minutes, minutes into hours, hours into days, days into weeks, weeks into months, months into years and years into a lifetime.
What you do with it drives your life and shapes your future
Everyone has the same time resource, the rich, the poor, the young, the old, the learned, the illiterate.
No one gets more, nobody gets less.
What is done within it is what makes a difference of a lifetime
There is a time for everything
A time to sow and a time to reap
A time to be sad and a time for joy
A time to give and a time to receive
Time gives an opportunity to for a better future
There is time to love
There is time to write and a time to refrain from writing

Life is Long term

Life is long term in the sense that what we do today goes a long way affecting how our future would be. A lot of people just think short term just because the do not see the end in view. They do things just because of the present gain and they do not think of how today's decision can affect tomorrow's events.
Even if the decision you make does not pay in the short term, its like an investment for the future. A very good example is the relationships we heep. A lot of people can't keep relationships for long because they only think of what they can gain presently and once that is achieved, they move on to look out for another one and most times looking for how to be the only to gain, that in a way being a parasite.
The gain is supposed to be in both ways and not one-sided.
Even if it is not paying now learn to delay gratification.
Always think long term, because it pays before you know it.
